Peer reviews on Publons can be one of two types: pre or post-publication. Pre-publication reviews are those commissioned by a journal or conference during a manuscripts path to publication (or not). These reviews can be verified using one of our verification methods which you can learn more about here: How do I verify my pre-publications reviews?

Post-publication reviews are those written about articles you have read and wish to share your thoughts on.  These are not considered for a journal. Reviews completed during the Publons Academy course are also considered post-publication reviews. Such reviews do not require verification.

We are aware that this dichotomy does not encapsulate the wide world of peer review.  There are journals for instance who commission and publish reviews of articles which have already been published.  If you are unsure about how to add your reviews or if you feel we have added your reviews incorrectly, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
